In 1795, Lord Wellington selected the Ireland Isles at far western tip of Bermuda, as the location for what he intended to become “the Gibralter of the West.” Having undergone a $20 million restoration, the Royal Naval Dockyard is the place to go to catch a glimpse into the rich naval history of Bermuda. The heart of this beautiful 6-acre complex is still the limestone architecture, but you can also browse modern shops, a craft market, and tour the Bermuda Maritime museum that was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1975.
